UIN Surakarta has officially signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Siam University and Prince of Songkla University, Thailand, during the CUPT–CRISU Conference 2025 in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). The partnership focuses on education, research, and community service, marking a new milestone in UIN Surakarta’s internationalization efforts.
UIN SURAKARTA – Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Mas Said Surakarta (UIN Surakarta) continues demonstrating its commitment to reaching the international stage. This time, UIN Surakarta has again established impactful partnerships with two universities from Thailand: Siam University and Prince of Songkla University. The agreement between the three universities was signed by the Rector of UIN Surakarta, Prof. H. Toto Suharto, in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN). The signing occurred on the sidelines of the Council of University Presidents of Thailand (CUPT)-Council of Rectors of Indonesian State Universities (CRISU) Conference 2025, held on August 25-26, 2025.
With this partnership, UIN Surakarta is committed to cross-border collaboration to internationalize higher education. The agreement between UIN Surakarta, Siam University, and Prince of Songkla University will cover the areas of education, research, and community service. The Rector emphasized that this collaboration would be implemented soon and would not be merely ceremonial. "In the near future, the three campuses have agreed to initiate a student mobility program. The commitment is already there; we just need to finalize the timing and technical details," he said.
Besides being a cross-border collaboration, this collaboration also solidifies UIN Surakarta's position as an internationally competitive religious university. Furthermore, this collaboration further strengthens UIN Surakarta's efforts to realize the Glocalization programs initiated by Rector Toto. This collaboration with foreign universities can also be a path towards realizing the globalization of the UIN Surakarta campus. "The glocalization program must continue to be promoted. This collaboration will help realize campus glocalization," concluded Prof. H. Toto.
Two student representatives from UIN Surakarta, Miftah Alkhadadi and Sadam Agusti Dwi Ardiyan, also participated in a student forum that brought together students from across Southeast Asia. They discussed recommendations for policy formulations based on sustainability and inclusive values. Regarding food security, the proposed "one university, one village" model is a form of implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, particularly in the aspect of community service. Universities are encouraged to conduct surveys, observations, and map village potential, then develop empowerment programs such as hydroponic farming.(Zaki/Wildi/Public Relations) Photo: Special/Wildi
